When I was just 1 year old my Mum and Dad got me a Leap Pad for Christmas that had a built in camera so I guess that was my first camera in a way.  That did not have a flash on it though and so the photos were all fuzzy.

I got my first real camera when I was 2 when Dad gave me his (very) old Sony Cybershot DSC-H9 camera. I liked that a lot as it was a real camera and whilst being very big, I really enjoyed taking photos with it.  I had taken a lot of photos in the house and at Nanny and Grandad’s house although my first real photo trip was to Lichfield with my Mum and Dad and they showed me various buildings and objects that I could photo.  I really liked that camera but one day when I was 4 we were photographing some boats by the canal and the shutter button on the top suddenly fell off.  Dad looked and looked and could not find it.

As I was so upset but Mum and Dad said it was OK as it was an old camera and Mum gave me her Canon Powershot SX30 camera.  This had lots more zoom and was a bit bigger than the Sony one and I like it.

When I can I also sometimes borrow one of my Dad’s Canon digital SLR cameras but they are very big and heavy and you have to attach separate lens to them to make them work.  He also a super-zoom Nikon Coolpix P600 with 60x optical zoom that can see the craters on the moon and also has a little tiny camera called a Sony Cybershot HX90V.  I love that one as it is smaller than a phone yet has 30x optical zoom on it

Dad explained to me that the cameras I have had are called bridge cameras. I said, “Does that mean I can only take photos of bridges?”  He said there are two main types of cameras, a point and shoot type where you just aim it and press the button and the digital SLR type where you have to change the lenses on them.  He said a bridge camera is a bit like a point and shoot but looks similar to a digital SLR but you don’t have to change lenses on it ... so it’s a bridge between the two.  I’m sure he thought it made sense when he told me.

He did say that that bridge cameras have much, much zoom than his big cameras and that if you were to buy the same sort of lens for a digital SLR camera it would cost thousands.

I really loved using Dad’s DSLR cameras and once whilst I was using his little Canon EOS 400D we went to a shop and a lady serving said that she liked my camera and I wasn’t sure what to say as it was one of dad’s cameras really. It never really made me think that from about October 2018 onwards my dad was letting me use his baby DSLR more and more teaching me how to use it.  So imagine just how amazed and surprised I was when on Christmas day 2018 I opened my presents and amongst them was a Canon EOS 650D .. my first proper DSLR camera, I was so excited, I kept hugging Mum and Dad lots to thank them.  It had a standard lens on it but Dad has said that when I use the camera I will be able to use his Canon lenses.

In  2020 I took my Drone and Model Aircraft test with the Civil Aviation Authority and passed and so now I am allowed to fly drones up to 20Kg in weight.  As a result my dad also bought a Simrex X11-GPS drone that has a HD 1040p camera hanging below for aerial photography. As I am under 16 my dad is licensed as the Operator of the drone where as I am registered as a “Flyer”.  It is great fun and you can get some amazing aerial photos from it.

With the Coronavirus Corvid-19 now spreading around the world and the UK being on lock down, we wondered about another way to take photos in the house and my dad got me a my Jiusion 40-1000x Magnification Endoscope /Microscope.  With that you can take really nice microscopic photos of things so it is the complete opposite of the drain seeing things from a distance up in the sky.

Leap Pad 2

1) The first camera I remember taking photos with was on this Leap Pad 2 tablet that I got for Christmas when I was 1. It was nice but has no flash so a lot of photos were all fuzzy and not very good. It helped me to learn how to point.

Sony Cybershot DSC-H9

2) My first real camera was a Sony Cybershot DSC-H9 that was 8.1 mega pixel and had 15x optical zoom.  It was Dad’s old one so has been half way round the world and back but I really liked this camera. Sadly one day the shutter button broke off it.

Canon Powershot SX30

3) My next camera was given to me by Mum and is a Canon Powershot SX30 that is 14.1 megapixel and has a 35x optical zoom. It is a nice camera but one day the zoom lens started to stick.

Canon EOS 650D

4) My current camera was given to me by Mum and Dad for my 7th Christmas and is my first DSLR camera.  It is a Canon EOS 650D and is 18 megapixel with a whole host of features,  Better still as it is a Canon, Dad said I can use his DSLR lenses

Simrex X11

5) In addition to my Canon I also have a Simrex X11-GPS drone that features a HD 1040p camera hanging below, The camera is fixed to a gyroscope so no matter what angle the drone is at, the camera is straight.

Jiusion 40 - 1000x Microscope

6) Another fun camera is my Jiusion 40-1000x Magnification USB Endoscope /Microscope.  This attaches to either my mobile phone or laptop and takes amazing microscopic photos capturing things you just cant see with the naked eye.
